THE BEGINNING OF MSP

Imagine this, It’s the year 2009. The year the first black president was elected.. The first ever Pride month happened, Michael Jackson died, oh and The website MovieStarPlanet was first released. Originally, starting as an education project to teach Danish children english, then a game for teens but eventually catching the eyes of many tweens and children, due to its dress-up and advertising. As moviestarplanet leaned into that role, many kids became active and obsessed with the game. And when it grew older in the 2010s, its player-base also grew. Hitting 100 million users in 2013. If I had to describe this game it would be.. A “Celebrity simulator” if you will. It almost felt like you were living the life of a celebrity. Causing drama and dating! You could update statuses, play games, watch youtube, chat with others, message others, make movies, make artbooks, change your outfits, make looks, post photos, gift, trade, and did I mention the FORUMS… Yeah we’ll stop right there. MovieStarPlanet was one of my favorite games, like many young girls and boys.

But behind this website, with it’s child-spirit, attention grabbing visuals, and like i said.. Bright colors? It has a lot of dark hidden secrets that MovieStarPlanet barely takes accountability for. Unlike games that were also popular around this time, like Animal Jam and Club Penguin, MovieStarPlanet allowed it’s player-base to get a slap on the wrist for anything. Animal Jam had a whole news headline about Online Dating, causing them to add a lot more chat restrictions/bans.

But MovieStarPlanet actively endorses online dating amongst children. What’s the reason for adding a boyfriend/girlfriend box on your profile, while PROMOTING your game on Nickelodeon. I mean, it’s ridiculous right? But let’s shift our focus to something else, something darker. The most popular players in this game.

THE RISE OF PUMPCHKIN

PUMPCHKIN, otherwise known as Pump or Carolyn, was a very well known moviestarplanet player in the community. She is considered one of the most well known players within the game still to this day. Even currently, people continue to ask about her whereabouts and what happened to her. From youtube videos to reddit posts to forum posts, people question the complete silence from her over the last 5 years. And I’m here to share the dark history of Pump and truly what happened.

In 2011, Pump’s account was first created, 2 years after the release of MovieStarPlanet. It’s believed she started gaining recognition after befriending another popular user, Joanna.Pety, who was known for her artbooks, movies, looks, etc. Joanna also was a highscorer whose levels grew in late 2011. After this recognition, Pump’s levels skyrocketed. She quickly managed to climb from the third page in late 2011, to the first page in early 2012. Eventually Pump became the top user from 2012 to 2019, before quitting and being passed by Mybeau.

During this growth, Pump gained an adoring fanbase called “Team Pump” or “Pump-Porters”. It’s a little odd to be a fan of a moviestarplanet player, but these fans were mostly made up of children. Many fans would make videos to her, send her greets, message her, send her autographs, and pretty much do anything for her attention. One of my friends even told me while I was making this script that her biggest flex was that she had Pumpchkin added. These children often fought with other “Fanbases” of popular MovieStarPlanet highscorers.

If you were active during this time, you would have definitely witnessed this. Pump’s looks, artbooks, and movies would get thousands and thousands of likes, views and comments, exposing her popularity.

In their club called “Team Pump”, there were “higher-ups” if you will. Pump’s closest friends or the Dream Team who contributed to Team Pump and were very influential to the community, I use influential loosely. We’re going to call them the leaders. In Team Pump, the leaders consisted of Donnie C, Riley@SaHs, Kylie_Kardash, Vivi Giovanni, Joanna.Pety, Cute stuff, SnuffleMuffens’, and more. The Dream Team Girls were incredibly infamous for their clique. They were all close and it was almost like you wanted to join their group. Some of these names are important, so keep them in mind.

While this is a deep dive about Pumpchkin, these girls completely ruled MovieStarPlanet in their prime. I truly can’t even explain their popularity in words but without them Pumpchkin would have not nearly as thrived. Sure, she was a very popular high scorer but these girls helped her gain this platform. They helped her reach her success.
